Luxembourg is a country of human dimensions: all sites and attractions are within easy reach: e.g. airport – city center: 7 km. Many locations are within walking distance from each other.
It is easy to get around in the capital (107,000 inhabitants) as the distances are short.
There is a vibrant nightlife scene around the fashionable bars of Hollerich, Grund and Clausen in the Capital, or in the “Rockhal” and the “Kulturfabrik” in Esch-sur-Alzette.
Furthermore, Luxembourg offers plenty of opportunities for sports, leisure activities as well as events: cinemas and climbing parks, mountain bike trails and an enormous cultural range – from jazz in the medieval city and contemporary art to theatre plays in every language or classical as well as world music.
The Grand Duchy represents not only the highest density of star restaurants throughout the world, it also offers a fabulous mix of cultures and flavours where the grand cuisines of Europe mingle with local products.

Cosmopolitan city with a lively past, Esch-sur-Alzette is well-known for its architectural charms (the architects Violet le Duc, Joseph Stübben, Gottfried Böhm and Peter Rice have worked here) and its large shopping facilities. The second largest town of the country lies at 17 km from the capital city and at 25 km from the airport. The City’s history and that of the adjacent areas can be traced back to more than 5.000 years and it owes its current importance is due to the surrounding iron ore.
A choice of cultural attractions awaits the visitors, for example the National Museum of the Resistance, the metallurgical factories, Berwart tower, monuments, architectural walks in the city centre, Belvédère, park (Stübben), St. Joseph’s church, Grotto of Lourdes, City Hall, local theatre with programs meeting everyone’s taste, art galleries, and the music conservatory.
Esch-sur-Alzette offers numerous entertainment possibilities: popular festivities, discos, renowned restaurants and bars. The recreation centre at Galgenberg for instance offers a beautiful park, marked walking paths, rose-garden, waterfall and fountains, playgrounds, zoo and several sports facilities.
As the Luxembourg Times explains, “Belval in the south of Luxembourg is synonymous with a number of things: live music with its Rockhal venue, higher education with the university campus and leisure with the cinema and Belval Plaza shopping mall, among other things.
But, it was not always the case and the site has gone through one of the most dramatic changes of any area in the Grand Duchy, from forest to natural spring site and later hosting a state-of-the-art steelworks.

While new developments continue to appear at Belval the site has not lost touch with its industrial roots. At the heart of the development remains the iconic steelworks building, which is today used for historic tours and exhibitions.”
